La Festa della Donna or Women’s Day has been celebrated in Italy for as long as I can remember – way before it became fashionable in this county. When I lived there, it always delighted me to see the streets filled with bouquets of tiny, fragrant yellow mimosa – symbols of the holiday. Not only did these delicate flowers pay homage to all women, they were definitely a tease of more temperate Spring weather to come.
Several years ago, in an effort to celebrate this holiday, I offered a 50% discount to all women on March 8th. It was my daughter, Olivia who suggested I carry the idea forward and actually create something longer lasting. And so i Ricchi’s Woman’s Club was born. A club, a community where women would feel welcome to come to network, do business or just meet up with friends. Every Tuesday, our female members enjoy a 50% discount on their checks. To partake, we only ask that you give us your email address so we can keep in touch. This idea has led to the establishment of a group of 8000+ (and growing) women members in addition to creating a place that is welcoming to other women’s groups as well.
It was this idea of creating a women’s community that intrigued me about Cambria Wines’ effort to offer tastings across the country, attracting women to enjoy some wine and cherish what they are able to accomplish together. As a female owned and operated winery, they believe that when strong women work together, they can change the world! That is why they felt compelled to create Seeds of Empowerment, a program to honor “Warrior Women”. It contributes $100,000 annually to empower and celebrate exceptional women who have overcome great adversity and inspired others to do the same.
The wines we will be offering at the tasting include Cambria’s chardonnays (in Wine Spectator’ s TOP 100) and their pinot noirs. They will be paired with artisanal, local Californian cheeses and garnishes. It promises to be a very special evening. http://cambria.eventbrite.com
