For one summer evening, we’re bringing the excitement, color, food, and camaraderie of Siena to Washington, DC.
Join us for i Ricchi’s Annual Palio Dinner, a celebration inspired by one of Tuscany’s oldest and most exhilarating traditions: Il Palio di Siena.
A Night in Siena
Twice each summer, the beautiful Tuscan city of Siena transforms for one of the world’s most anticipated horse races.
The Palio is unlike any ordinary sporting event. Jockeys representing Siena’s historic neighborhoods—the famous contrade—race around the Piazza del Campo in a breathtaking contest that lasts only about 70 seconds.
But the Palio is about far more than the race.
It is centuries of tradition. Neighborhood pride. Colorful flags. Rivalries passed from generation to generation. Long communal tables filling the streets. And, naturally, plenty of wonderful Tuscan food and wine.
It is Siena at its most passionate—and that is the spirit we’ll celebrate at i Ricchi.
Our Piazza Comes Alive
On Saturday, August 15, we’ll recreate a little of that Sienese magic right here in Washington.
Weather permitting, communal tables will line our outdoor Piazza beneath colorful Sienese flags, creating the atmosphere of an Italian neighborhood celebration.
Come ready to eat, toast, laugh, meet your neighbors, and enjoy a summer evening in the tradition of Tuscany.
And if Mother Nature decides to give us a particularly authentic Italian summer day and it’s simply too hot outside, the festivities will move into our air-conditioned dining room.
The Palio Dinner Menu
The evening begins with a Summer Spritz cocktail to welcome everyone to the celebration.
Our Antipasto Toscano follows, featuring prosciutto and melon, finocchiona fennel salame, tomato fettunta, fried polenta, and mushroom crostini.
Next comes Pappardelle al Cinghiale—handmade pasta ribbons with wild boar, one of Tuscany’s great rustic dishes.
For the main course, we’ll serve Pollo al Burro Fiorentino, our famous Florentine butter chicken accompanied by rosemary-roasted potatoes and Tuscan vegetable frittura.
And because no Italian celebration should end without something sweet, dessert is Pinolata Sienese, a custard-filled pine nut cake served with crema gelato.
